Url: https://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/educators/galaxies/galaxies.html
Publisher: Goddard Space Flight Center
Description: This teacher's guide includes a collection of activities intended to accompany the 'The Hidden Lives of Galaxies' poster. The activities deal with the formation, history, and properties of galaxies. Topics include how galaxies get their names, the components of a galaxy, and clustering of galaxies. There are also discussions of the hidden aspects of these bodies, including black holes, hidden mass, and dark matter. The activities address such topics as the size of the universe, identifying and classifying galaxies, unususal types of galaxies, and their mass. The book is available in both online and downloadable versions, and a Spanish translation is also available. There is also a slide presentation that accompanies the lessons. Alignments with national mathematics and science standards are included, and a link to the site for downloading the poster is provided.
